UGA Equestrian
We created this video at the University of Georgia Equestrian Center during a 2016 meet between the nation’s top-ranked Auburn Tigers and the second-ranked Georgia Bulldogs.
Auburn, coached by Greg Williams, prevailed 12-8, and weeks later won its fourth National Collegiate Equestrian Association championship.
Georgia, coached by Meghan Boenig, came into the season as the top-ranked team. It won its sixth national championship in 2014.
The 2015-16 Auburn equestrian team defeated No. 6 TCU in dramatic fashion in the national finale. The team also earned the program’s first Southeastern Conference title and finished with a program-best 16-1 overall record.
On the way to their impressive season record, the Tigers defeated rivals and national powerhouses Georgia and South Carolina three times, topping the Bulldogs and Gamecocks both on the road and in the SEC tournament. Auburn also picked up a handful of impressive victories, including a 15-5 win over then-No. 3 Baylor and a 15-1 win over No. 8 Kansas State in the NCEA quarterfinal.
Members of the senior class finished their careers on top of almost all Auburn records.
The Bulldogs began the 2015-16 campaign ranked as the No. 1 equestrian team in the country. The team rode to a 10-2 record during the regular season, before going 2-2 in the post season.
Georgia had eight riders named to NCEA All-America teams for the 2015-16 season. The Bulldogs put ten riders on All-SEC teams, and claimed five Rider of the Year awards. Coach Boenig also won her second straight SEC Coach of The Year award.
